More Paul Weller Goodness: Brand New Start
August 4th 2008 00:06
This has to be one of my favourite solo songs from the great man.
I'm gonna clear out my head
I'm gonna get myself straight
I know it's never too late
To make a brand new start
I'm gonna kick down the door
I'm gonna get myself in
I'm gonna fix up the yard
And not fall back again
I'm gonna clean up my earth
And build a heaven on the ground
Not something distant and unfound
But something real to me
All that I can I can be
All that I am I can see
All that is mine is in my hands
So to myself I call
There's somewhere else I should be
There's someone else I can see
There's something more I can find
It's only up to me
I'm gonna clean up my earth
And build a heaven on the ground
Not something distant and unfound
But something real to me
I'm gonna clear out my head
I'm gonna get myself straight
I know it's never too late
To make a brand new start...
I don't think I really need to go into these lyrics as their brilliant melancholy is crystal clear. Life isn't over until it's over. And until you take your final breathe then you have the power to improve yourself.
I listen to this song when I am feeling low on self esteem and in need of a pick me up. When I am lost and confused and I know I need to make a decision I have been putting off. When I feel I have backed myself into a corner and I don't know how to turn my life around. When I know that the only person I can really rely on is me. And that if I put my heart into it, I can make my own life be whatever it is I want it to be.
Have I mentioned how much I love Paul Weller?

I've only vaguely heard this song, but I can see what you mean about his lyrics.
I think you can say it over and over how much you love him, I do too.

You're welcome Jeff, glad to see an American that appreciates Paul Weller too! He never really did take off in your part of the world.
